What Do You Mean, Get Into Your Body?

What does it mean to “get into your body” in body psychotherapy?

Here are a few of the many ways to do so:

  • Standing vs. sitting on the therapist’s couch
  • Pounding exercises
  • Finding your voice

You’ll find where you have tension in your body and do exercises to release that tension.

Surprisingly, the pounding exercises often release tension in the shoulders. The grounding pose can be a very calming exercise. It can also build your capacity to stand emotions. The longer you can stand in the grounding pose, the longer you can stand any emotion that comes into your body. For example, if you have a short fuse and you practice the grounding pose, you will be able to lengthen your fuse.

These are just a few of the ways you can get out of your head and into your body in body psychotherapy.
